The Emotional and Psychological Impact of Cancer - Live Discussion on The Guardian

I have just taken part in The Guardians live online discussion about the emotional and psychological impact of cancer.

I found the emotional trauma of stress and anxiety so much more difficult to deal with than the physical side effects of the chemotherapy. However, while there was lots of help out there for the physical side effects, at no point was I offered any psychological support even when I left appointments in floods of tears or when I asked for it. The general consensus of the discussion panel was the same and the conclusion was that much more must be done to support the patient and their family both during treatment and for a significant amount of time afterwards.
